《日以继夜》邀请了九位在当今世界艺术舞台上最活跃的艺术家，一同探索这座城市以及美术馆的历史和现状。展览在时间上将被分为“白天”和“黑夜”，白天的部分着眼于物质生产、城市和社会的变迁；而夜晚的部分则展现艺术家的内心世界，包括试验性的演出活动、讲座、教育工作坊，以及每位参展艺术家精心挑选对他们的创作有启发性的电影。藉此规划，个人与24小时不间断的城市生活，以及生活中多种多样和充满矛盾的元素将会在这些项目中得以展现并与公众进行互动。
9 artists among the most active in the global scene today will be invited to Shanghai to explore the histories and realities of both the city and the museum. The exhibition will be divided into two phases, the day section will emphasize on aspects of material production, urban transformation and social change while the night section will provide a platform to display the artist’s fantastic inner world which include regular programmes of performance, lectures, workshops, video and film projections featuring other artists’ work and films selected by the artists focusing on the topic of urban change and memory-imagination. Together, the events will form a platform in which individual and alternative interpretations of the 24 hour non-stop urban life will be displayed and interactively communicated with the public.
“艺术夜生活”是本展的夜间部分活动，由“夜校”和“电影观摩”两个部分组成。前者包括了18场内容各异的讲座、对话、工作坊、表演等，后者则安排了27场电影欣赏活动，这些电影是由9位参展艺术家所推荐的，并且都是影响过他们思想与创作的作品。这些活动将在展期中的9个周末夜间展开，既是对白天展览在时间上的延续，又是展出作品所涉及话题的拓展，更是美术馆面对社会现实和当代文化现象的积极回应。同时，由于各场“夜校”活动将由本地的艺术机构和媒体来主持，美术馆也将由此成为本地的艺文创作者、研究者和爱好者聚集交流的舞台。
“By Night @ RAM” is a series of free nighttime activities in the “By Day By Night: or Some (Special) Things a Museum Can Do” exhibition in Rockbund Art Museum and consists of two parts: “Night School” and “Film Screening”. “Night School” is composed of 18 seminars, workshops, dialogues and performances, while “Film Screening” includes 27 movies. Each of the nine participating artists was asked to recommend three films that have influenced their thinking and artworks the most. Held in nine weekend evenings, these activities are an extension of the daytime exhibition and the subjects of the artworks. What’s more, they serve as a proactive response by the Museum to the social reality and contemporary culture. In the meantime, “Night School” activities will be co-hosted by local art institutes or media in Shanghai, thus making the Museum a platform for communication between artists, researchers and art lovers.

This event will include a screening of video works, musical instrument show, speech, Q&A session all by Dominique Pasqualini. He wishes to talk with the audience about the things that can be shared between the creators and audience in the education, creation and communication of contemporary art.

Speaker: François Deck／artist consultant, Professor from Grenobl Academy of Art
作为一位艺术学院的教授， 佛朗索瓦 戴克将为这场活动带来一个“问题银行”游戏。他将准备一系列的问题以游戏的形式交给活动的参与者，参与者可以通过提出、回答、讨论和发展这些“源问题”展开关于美学、政治或者城市规划等话题的讨论。戴克一直拒绝自己的工作被商业化，质疑艺术产业经济的现象，并尝试在美学和社会批评之间建立起一种联系。
François Deck invents "question banks" and other devices such as board games where players are encouraged to create their own rules. The guiding principle behind his work lies in its immateriality, and is based on submitting "source questions" to various parties – judgments, interpretations and pronouncements. Through such protocols, he develops the concept of reciprocal expertise in cooperative projects where all those involved are co-authors. His sessions broach aesthetic, political, or city planning issues, during which collective questioning leads to democratic decision-making. He refuses any commercialization of work, he questions the economics of art, and establishes a link between aesthetic and social critique.
