作为一位出生在巴基斯坦的女性艺术家,REETA SAEED的艺术创作一直和以下一些事实联系在一起:细密画,纺织物,英联邦(或加拿大)。REETA SAEED的艺术起点来源于传统,细密画对于历史,神话,世俗场景的刻画方式,成为了她早期表达自我的手段,只是传统中所强调的记录及寓说,在她的笔下则成就为一位女性关于女性意识的自我书写,艺术家本能的将自己的视角和政治,身份,存在等联系在一起,进而在传统语汇的躯壳下,讲述当代人真实而具体的生存体验。
变化来自游走,2004年REETA离开了巴基斯坦,定居多伦多,间后则求学于英国。不确定从哪个具体的时间开始,细密画的面前出现了纺织物,可以肯定的是,南亚人对于纺织物的体验是关乎生命的,它和生活相关,和血脉相连,一如那缕曾经蒙在她眼前的面纱:观看在丝绸之下,或近或远。这是一丝被刻意遮蔽了的观看,其后果却是对于被遮蔽物的强化或否定。也就是从这一刻起,图像和观看开始重叠,视觉被延伸为触觉。
REETA的艺术实践就是在这样的游走中,反复间,开始了她更为直接的质询和表达,材料和装置的介入,在拓宽她艺术表达语言的同时,也让她更为贴近当下现实。通过作品来表述其所遇所惑,肯定而具体。不变的女性视角,含蓄中透出一丝尖锐,激荡里掩藏些许无奈。在表达中寻找共鸣,在交流中期待交换,是我所察觉到的,也是我所赞许的。痕迹存在于起始,追寻则意味回归。

As a female artist born in Pakistan, Reeta Saeed’s artistic creation has been always related to these matters: textiles and miniatures art。 She has worked in and United Kingdom,Canada, europe and north America. Reeta Saeed’s art works are originated from tradition. The expression of history, mythology and secular scene in her art miniatures became the self-expression in her earlier stage. However, the documentary and fable in the traditional miniatures changed into a female’s self consciousness. The artist has instantly connected her own perspective with political, identity and existence perspective together, in order to tell the real contemporary living experience of people by using the traditional vocabulary.
Change in Ms. Saeed art comes from travelling. Since 2004, Reeta has left Pakistan, settled in Toronto, and has studied in Britain in between the period. There’s uncertainty of the exact time textiles become a part of miniatures, but there’s certainty of people from South Asia has the experience of miniature which closely related to life, to life and blood. Just like the veil once covering face of asian women: observation behind silk is either far or near. This is an observation after veiling in purpose, which brings the result of strengthen or negation of the fact behind the veil. Since the moment, the image and the observation begin to overlap, visual sense is extended to touch.
Reeta’s art practice is such wandering, by repeating, more direct inquiries and expression begun. The intervention of materials and installation broadened her art language of expression, and driven more close to reality. Through the works she expresses her experience. Constant female perspective in her works is implicative with a sharp passes. Art is her expression, she finds it a reasons to communication. This is what I precieve: Vestige exists in the beginning, perusing means return.

描述:展览旨在讨论当今社会的不平衡和全球化带来的影响。并强调巴基斯坦的现状。近年来全球媒体聚焦巴基斯坦。巴基斯坦,作为一个新国家不仅需要在批判的外界环境下维持生存,它同时也支持打击恐怖主义。其文化是由非常多样化的社会团体组成,在近代的历史中英国起着主要影响。
我也设想了一个视觉特别的装置标题:抱歉眼前不便。它讨论到全球贸易的问题,和其对国内市场和世界各地的贫穷人们的影响。
The exhibition discusses the misbalance in present society and effects of globalization. It also highlights the current situation of Pakistan. In recent years world’s media has focused on Pakistan. Pakistan, being a new country not only deals with its own survival under critical circumstances but it also supports fight against terrorism. Its culture is consist of very diverse communities and in most recent history British has been a major influence.
I have also creating a sight specific instillation title: sorry for inconvenience. The instillation talks about the issues of global trade, its effects on the local market and poor people around the globe.
