CIGE 2009 Press Conference held successfully
The press conference of China International Gallery Exposition 2009 (CIGE 2009) had been held successfully at Nine Dynasty, Hi-end Chinese style club affiliated to Kebao Boloni on Tuesday,March 17 2009. Invited several cultural experts working for culture institute in embassies, famous non-profit art organizations in Beijing, and some cooperating partners, CIGE executive committee discussed with them about the new ideas and trends of CIGE 2009. Journalists represented over a hundred media in art, financial and fashion, at home and abroad, have also participated in the press conference, pre-warming the stage of CIGE 2009 all together.
The press conference started with the speech delivered by CIGE director Ms. Wang Yihan, who further emphasized the idea that CIGE should base in China, cover the whole Asia, and widen the sight cross the world. She also hoped the upcoming art fair would showcase the integrity of contemporary art scene in Asia and the art projects to be held this year would enable to help collectors and galleries learn more in emerging art regions. Ms. Wang Yihan said, it was the very time to slow down and ponder upon the artistry when facing the market that was conducting self-adjusting. Only if art was understood from the perspective of its own true value, one is able to make clear the target and perform efforts to achieve it. The moderator of the press conference, Mr. You Yang from the CIGE committee introduced the general information of six art projects of CIGE 2009, and the participating institutions and artists. Especially, the project of "MAPPING ASIA: Young Asian Artists Solo Shows" attracted considerable attention among the attending media. The executive committee had particularly established an international experts committee for this section. The international committee will clearly examine and carefully assess young artists’ works during the preview period, and choose the most excellent and creative three out of them, to enhance the international reputation of Asian young artists. According to YOU yang, a rotation of CIGE promos would be on the signification economy TVs of the overseas and the Capital Airport of Beijing. Succulently, Ms. Gabriele Feigl from Austrian Embassy, Ms. Barbara Alighiero counsellor of the Italian Institute of Culture in Beijing, Miss Elisa Cousseran director of UCCA communication dept. and Mr. Cai Ming, founder and CEO of Kebao Boloni gave a brief introduction of their special art projects in CIGE 2009, with their affirmative agreements on the important role that CIGE taken in the international art industry. Finally, the press conference of CIGE 2009 was completely finished in Chinese buffet and random talk in Suzhou Gardens, a specially designed area of Nine Dynasty.

CIGE is the shortening of China International Gallery Exposition. The first CIGE was launched in 2004 in Beijing. Through the developments in the past five years, CIGE has been considered as one of the top modern and contemporary art fairs in Asia. CIGE 2009 will be held between April 16-19, 2009, in the China World Trade Center, Beijing. The fair will showcase around 80 selected outstanding galleries, and present curated art projects such as MAPPING ASIA, focus on young talented artists in Asia, and the curators from Tate, new museum and other top art institutions will select the most three interesting solo shows; VIDEO LOOPS will present video, film and documentary screening programs by emerging as well as established artists; SUBLIMINALS will present not-for-sale projects realized by not-for-profit art organizations; last but not least, the brand new project: INTERNATIONAL SOLO SHOWS will invite artists in residency in Beijing and work towards the realization of site-specific projects in CIGE 2009. CIGE 2009 will also be one of Asian biggest event of contemporary art during spring.
